Made in Summit: Kona Jewelry Co.

Name of business or product: Kona Jewelry Co.
Date business or product was launched: I launched Kona Jewelry Co. in the fall of 2011 in Summit County. I have been producing and selling jewelry off and on since 2002.
What goods do you make here in Summit County? How much do they cost? Kona Jewelry Co. is handmade, one-of-a kind jewelry. I specialize in rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces. They are priced ranging from $15 to $50.
What’s great about making your products here? Making products I love in a place that I love is amazing. Being outside in the mountains inspires me to continue doing what I love and feeds my creativity. The local market lends itself to making one-of-a kind pieces that people can purchase to take home as a keepsake of their experience in Colorado.
What’s new with your company or product? I just expanded out of state, to a small USA-made clothing store in Jackson Hole, Wyo., Burgess Custom. It’s exciting to partner with another business whose passion is making high-quality, American-made products.
Why do you think it’s important for people in Summit County to buy locally made goods? In a global market where more and more things are mass produced, it’s important for communities to help sustain themselves by producing and buying locally made products. I love to buy unique products when I travel and hope to provide the same for people visiting Breckenridge. Not to mention, locals also appreciate original, fashionable and affordable locally made jewelry.
How can people find out more about your products? Kona Jewelry can be found in a few local stores, the GH Gallery on Main Street in Breckenridge and in Vail, Luna Beads and Glass on Main Street in Frisco, Burgess Custom in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and a couple of other small shops. Kona Jewelry Co. also has a small online shop on konajewelryco.etsy.com, or you can find us on Facebook for current news and promotions. Kona Jewelry will also be at a few markets this summer. Check out Facebook for updates. Custom orders are always welcome.
