New fees at Green Mountain Reservoir

Daily News staff report

Campers will to pay a higher fee this summer to spend the night at Green Mountain Reservoir.

The Dillon Ranger District has changed the fee from $5 per vehicle to $13 per night for camping, allowing campers to have two vehicles at a site.

“The new fees are comparable to those charged at Dillon Reservoir and the Arapahoe National Recreation Area at Grand Lake,” Dillon Ranger District recreation staff officer Ken Waugh stated in a release.

Groups camping with more than two vehicles will be charged $5 for each additional vehicle.

A $65 season pass will continue to be offered for unlimited access to all of the campgrounds with a stay limit of 14 days.

The new price is intended to help generate enough revenue to cover the cost of operating and upgrading facilities, which the old fee failed to do, according to a statement from the district.

In recent years new tables and toilets have been installed at Elliot Creek and Prairie Point campgrounds and 12 new campsites were added to the campground at Cow Creek South with the use of funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The area sees roughly 20,000 visitors between May and October.
