Footprints Adventures is having a video premier and presentation at the Next Page Bookstore, Frisco, Saturday at 3 p.m.

Footprints is a local 501C3 non-profit dedicated to helping people with limb loss achieve outdoor adventures. The group runs multi-day adventure travel programs for teens and adults with limb loss and limb differences throughout Colorado.

“My husband and I founded it together after he was in a bad climbing accident in 2004,” said Footprints co-founder Brittany Anderson. “We’ve lived up here in Summit County since 2006 and we incorporated Footprints in 2009.” They had their first operating summer last year, according to Anderson.

“We had a really great summer, and we’re really looking forward to some really good trips this summer,” she said. “We want people to know about what we’re doing and about the organization.”

The video screening is about the organization and the two trips completed last summer. There was an adult trip to Winter Park and the No Barriers conference there; as well as a teen trip that took the group camping, climbing, paddling and on ropes courses throughout the state. “We camped out the whole time, went rock climbing in Estes Park, did a ropes course on the high ropes course in Granby and then went rafting down Brown’s Canyon on the Arkansas,” said Anderson. “We also have one of our participants from last year who will be there and he will talk a little bit about how the trip was for him last year. And he will be attending this year as well.”

This year there will be one adult trip in July, a Colorado expedition similar to the one for the teens last year, “except we’re doing the ropes course here with the BOEC,” Anderson said. In August a seven-day adventure trip will take place for teens again including camping, rock climbing and river running.

Footprints Adventures mission is to promote self advocacy and self confidence in teens with limb differences and limb loss, and to challenge them to set new physical goals through fun and adventure activities. Or, simply, empowering fun adventures.

“We have a campership program where people can donate $900, and that covers the fees for one person,” Anderson said. “Financial donations can be made by check at the event or through the link on the website through PayPal. We are always looking for gear donations as well. Mainly the camping portion, tents, sleeping pads, and along those lines.”

Anderson said that the non-profit is also in the market for someone to help with book keeping and financials. There is even a link on the website to donate a car, running or not. But more than cars, the group is in need of passenger vans, trailers or a minibus to be donated or purchased. All donations are tax deductible.
