Christine Limbach High
July 30, 1947 - February 26, 2014
Christy High, of Silverthorne, Colo., passed away peacefully in her sleep after a courageous year-long battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and grew up in Summit, N.J., where she was graduated from Summit High School, class of 1965.
Christy attended Centenary College, Parsons School of Design, and Syracuse University. She received BFA and MFA degrees in Art Education from Syracuse and embarked on an inspirational 37-year career in education, including 34 years in the Bernards Township, N.J., school district where she taught art, photography and computer graphics, served as Art Department Coordinator, and was appointed as Fine and Practical Arts Supervisor.
Upon retiring in 2008, Christy moved from Princeton Junction, N.J., to Silverthorne, Colo., where she immersed herself in the aura of Summit County. She continued to downhill ski and took up cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, cycling and hiking, and volunteered for trail maintenance. She joined Copper Mountain Ambassadors, Summit Seniors, the Summit Historical Society where she served as docent at Old Dillon Schoolhouse, and Lord of the Mountains Church where she was a respected member of the Yak & Yarn group, Alter Guild, Hospitality Committee, and Church Council.
Christy was the daughter of the late Henry Limbach and Susie LimbachGast, and step-daughter of the late Alton Gast. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Joel; sisters Betty Sue (Bob) Reed of Wickford, R.I., and Nancy (Chad) Spears of Silverthorne, Colo.; step-sisters Judy (Pete) Plath of Lenexa, Kan., and Linda (Ed) Bayha of Collierville, Tenn.; step-brother Jerry (Vicki) Gastof Amsterdam, Ohio; 10 nieces and nephews; and 13 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
All who knew Christy will miss her quick smile and the wonderful, strong, loving person she was. She was cremated, and her life was honored and remembered by close family at a service on March 1. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Lord of the Mountains Church, 56 Highway 6, Dillon, Colo., at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25. A reception in the LOTM fellowship hall will follow the service. Contributions in memory of Christy can be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church, Summit Historical Society, Summit County Senior Center, or to any of the many local non-profit organizations that serve to protect the health, safety and recreational activities of Summit County residents and guests.
