Craig S. Suwinski

Feb. 11, 1945 – Jan. 22, 2015

Longtime Keystone, Colorado, resident Craig Suwinski, 69, passed away on Jan. 22, 2015, at his family home in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. Craig was born on Feb. 11, 1945, in Florida and spent his formative years living in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. He graduated from Wayne State University, where he received Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees. Craig also completed coursework for a Master of Healthcare Administration degree at the Universities of Michigan and Minnesota. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Detroit College of Law (Michigan State University) and was admitted to the Bar of the State of Michigan in 1978.

While attending Wayne State University, Craig was a proud member of Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity. Over the many years since graduation, the close personal relationships and bonds he formed with his “brother Delta Sigs” endured and, to a man, all are proud to have considered Craig an integral part of their extended family. Craig will be missed tremendously by everyone who was privileged to call him “brother.”

Craig had many diverse interests, including skiing, camping and hiking in the mountains, especially the Grand Tetons in Wyoming, as well as golfing and sailing. He loved volunteering with the Keystone Adaptive Skiing program for people with disabilities and special needs. Craig always said that he gained more from this volunteer experience than the clients he assisted. He was also a volunteer mountain host at Arapahoe Basin and a longtime volunteer member of the on-mountain Keystone and Copper Mountain skier safety programs. Craig truly loved living in Colorado with his golden retriever, Bud, and he was always a great host to friends and family who visited.

Craig spent his professional career in the field of hospital administration, medical group management, and healthcare consulting. While living in Colorado, Craig was an online affiliate instructor for Regis University in Denver, Colorado, responsible for teaching MBA candidates’ classes in law and ethics. Always a committed community activist, with extensive community involvement, Craig was a 12-year member of the Snake River Planning Commission in Summit County, Colorado.

Craig was pre-deceased by his mother, Claire Suwinski, father, Dr. Raymond Suwinski, and brother-in-law, Jeff Jensen. He is survived by his sisters Kathy Jensen and Lynn Gartley (John), nephews Michael Jensen (Laura), David Jensen, Sean Gartley, Brandon Gartley, and former wife and close friend Peggy Suwinski.

A memorial service was held at First English Ev. Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. A celebration of life will be held later in the Grand Tetons. As a memorial to Craig, the family asks that donations be made to Keystone Adaptive Skiing Program. Send to: Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, P.O. Box 697, Breckenridge, CO 80424, attn. Melissa, and specify that it should go to the Keystone Adaptive Skiing Program.
