Obituary: Elaine A. Purmal

Elaine A. Purmal

July 21, 1920 – Feb. 20, 2016

Elaine A. Purmal, our loving mother, passed away in her sleep on Feb. 20 at 5 a.m. at the Clare Bridge Dementia Community in Highlands Ranch after a long struggle with dementia and its side effects. She was born July 21, 1920 and died Feb. 20, 2016; she was 95 years old.

Her mother was a Norwegian immigrant who came to America through Ellis Island, New York. Elaine is survived by one brother, Bob Ellison, of Benjamin Mountain Home, Arkansas. Her other siblings, now deceased, are Edna Moats, or Weaverville, California; Raymond Ellison, of Skokie, Illinois; and Norman Ellison, of Lake Zurich, Illinois. In addition she is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Elaine was a former resident at Concordia Apartments, in Littleton, Colorado from 2004-2014. She and her husband, John Purmal, were former long-term Summit County residents and developers, managers of the Meadow Creek Villas, Ten Mile Creek and the shores of Lake Dillon in the 1970s to mid-1990s. The couple also resided for many years at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, raising their two children there — both of who are survivors: Nancy Carlson, of Bigfork, Montana and Tom Purmal, of Highlands Ranch.

Also, John developed his own company in the Chicago area, which later moved to Lake Geneva, where he worked for many years as a scientific glass-blower, producing specialty glass products for R&D for chemical and pharmaceutical companies. Thereafter, Elaine and John retired to Green Valley, Arizona, where John later passed away on Sept. 5, 2002.

Elaine was a strong-willed, independent, intelligent, hard-working and loving mother. She and John had a good life through good times and bad times and always strived to make life better for their family. The couple enjoyed many activities over the years, including golf, dancing, skiing, hiking, traveling and socializing with their friends and children. They will always be loved and greatly missed by their family.

A funeral service will be held at the Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 5303 E. County Line Rd., Centennial, Colorado 80122, on Feb. 29, 2016 at 5 p.m.
