James R. Dover
Dec. 11, 1931 - Dec. 27, 2013
James R. Dover, 82, of Dillon passed away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2013, after a long battle with emphysema. He was born on Dec. 11, 1931, in Fords, N.J., to Thomas J. and Esther Dover.
After graduating from the University of Colorado in 1953, he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1954. He served with the 302nd in Germany, where both of his sons were born. Upon returning stateside, Jim held various jobs until he graduated from Denver University Law School.
Jim practiced law for many years. He also was the municipal court judge in Broomfield and Federal Heights for 17 years prior to relocating to Summit County, where he, his wife, Pat, and their llamas lived comfortably for nearly 30 years. Among his contributions to Dillon were serving two terms on town council and donating the Eagle pocket park at Lake Dillon, one of the first of these for the town.
Jim was best known throughout the area for having a ready, broad smile, an impish twinkle in his eyes and for truly never meeting a stranger.
Jim is survived by his spouse and friend, Pat, his two sons, Tom (Linda) of Charleston, W.V., and Bill of Fort Collins, and three lovely granddaughters, Rebecca, Marcella and Patricia, as well as a huge number of friends throughout the area. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joan, and a daughter, Dona.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Town Council Chambers at 275 Lake Dillon Drive, Dillon, with a gathering to follow immediately afterwards at Pug Ryan’s Brewing Co.
In lieu of flowers, Pat asks that you consider memorial donations to Bristlecone Foundation, P.O. Box 1327, Frisco, CO 80443, which was wonderful in helping with Jim’s care, or the Summit County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 5225, Frisco, CO 80443, or your favorite charity.
Cards and condolences may be sent to Patricia A. Dover, P.O. Box 2371, Dillon, CO 80435-2371.
