Obituary: Abad ‘Buggy’ Christopher Chavez

Abad ‘Buggy’ Christopher Chavez

June 19, 1971 - Jan. 24, 2014

Abad, our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, went to join the angels in Heaven on Jan. 24, 2014.

To know him was to love him. His big heart and infectious smile had a way to make you feel warm. He told us that one day when we write his obituary, it should read, “Lived. Died. That’s it.” Because that’s the way he lived his life. He cared more for others than he did himself. He was an observer and said what needed to be said. In fact, if he was reading this he would probably say, “Wrap it up already.”

He loved the mountains and fishing, and if you were on the river and asked him what the fish were biting on, he’d reply, “My perfect drift.” Rain or shine, sunburn or frostbitten fingers, he would be on the river at his favorite honey hole. He loved NASCAR and the Broncos.

He worked in the paint industry in Summit County for over a decade and always went above and beyond for his customers. He recently began working at Alpine Paint in Breckenridge, and loved it. Our time with him here on earth was too short, but we look forward to seeing him again in Heaven. You’re forever in our hearts, Buggy.

Abad is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Byrd, of Los Alamos, N.M.; girlfriend, Wenona Westerhold; father and wife, Jerry and Jeri Chavez, of Leadville, Colo.; sisters and brothers, Nicole McMains, Casey Byrd, Michael Chavez and Sara Ramirez.

Instead of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Anglers of America — Region 5 Colorado.

The memorial gathering will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at “The Grill Bar and Cafe” in Leadville, Colo.
