One-acre grass fire breaks out in Silverthorne Saturday

A small fire was sparked in Silverthorne just after 2 p.m. Saturday, spreading one acre before firefighters extinguished the blaze at approximately 3:45 p.m., according to Steve Skulski, Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue assistant chief and fire marshall.

Two crews from Lake Dillon and one from Red, White and Blue Fire District responded to the blaze near the intersection of Adams and 10th streets and were able to get it under control quickly.

“There was little wind and limited fuels, so the conditions worked in our favor for extinguishing the fire,” Skulski said. “It was reported very quickly and crews responded appropriately.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Skulski.

Lack of rain and snow in recent weeks have made conditions dry.

“It’s important for everyone to be extremely careful, we’re not entirely out of fire season quite yet,” Skulski said.
