Raymond: Thanks to Frisco Elementary for Veterans Day program
Ryan Summerlin November 18, 2012
A group of veterans were treated to a special event at Frisco Elementary School on Veterans Day. Veterans visited classrooms where they talked with students about their military service. The children were very interested and asked many good questions. Then, we were treated to a delicious, catered meal from Tuscatos. A general assembly followed with Girl Scouts presenting the colors. The “Pledge of Allegiance” was recited; patriotic songs were sung by the student chorus; the poem, “In Flanders Fields” was read and the first graders sang “We thank you, veterans.” Jon Clark spoke about the history of military bugling after which he played “Reveille” and “Taps.”
The students were so attentive as each veteran introduced himself and described a little about his service. At the end, we veterans were given gifts of homemade cookies.
What a wonderful tribute from the students, teachers and parents of Frisco Elementary School. We appreciate all of your efforts to make Veterans Day so special. As one veteran so eloquently put it, “Our military service was not for us; it was for you young people who are the future of our country.”
