The Red, White and Blue Career Firefighters Association, in conjunction with the International Fire Fighters Association, Local #4325, is kicking off the 2014 “Fill the Boot” campaign in an effort to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during Labor Day weekend.
This year’s fundraising goal is $8,000.
In 2013, Red, White and Blue raised just more than $6,100, according to a Red, White and Blue Fire news release.
This year, firefighters again will solicit donations from motorists and pedestrians along Main Street and in front of City Market in Breckenridge. Donations collected will stay in Colorado to help make a difference to those who are affected by one of the 40 neuromuscular diseases.
In addition, a portion of this year’s collection also will be used to help offset medical costs for a local family. Lolli Piper Hope, 4, of Silverthorne, was recently diagnosed with cancer, and as a result had to have a portion of her foot removed. Hope’s family faces significant medical, bills in addition to years of ongoing treatments. Information about Hope can be found online at the Go Fund Me website.
Since 1954, the International Association of Firefighters has raised nearly $300 million to support the mission of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and is the single largest sponsor. As an IAFF member, the Red, White and Blue Fire Department has significantly contributed to the funds raised for the Muscular Dystrophy Association year after year.
The Red, White and Blue Career Firefighters Association is a professional organization established by the firefighters protecting the nearly 138 square miles of the upper Blue River valley.
