Glenwood Police report attempted kidnapping of young girl

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Police are looking for a man who reportedly grabbed a young girl off a downtown street on July 26 and forced her into his pickup truck, although the girl is said to have escaped when the truck “stopped at a secluded location.”

According to a bulletin issued by the Glenwood Springs Police Department late on Wednesday, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., when the juvenile female was walking “in the downtown area of Glenwood Springs” on a street that is not named in the bulletin.

According to the police bulletin, the man drove around “for a couple hours” with the girl in his truck before stopping “at a secluded location in Glenwood Springs. At that point, the female physically resisted the male and was able to escape.”

The girl described the man as white with pale skin, approximately 25 years old, clean shaven with medium length brown hair and green eyes.

He was wearing a small silver hoop earring in his left ear lobe, had a spiral-style tattoo on the back of his neck about the size of a mason jar lid, and was wearing a black hoodie, dark blue jeans and a red ball cap with a white “C” on the front, according to the bulletin.

His truck is described as a white extended-cab, full-size truck, possibly manufactured in the early 2000s, with a white camper shell, rust on the front near the grille, and black leather seats with black carpeting.

The inside of the truck, according to the bulletin, “smelled of tobacco from cigarette use.”

Anyone with any information that might be relevant is asked to call the police at 970-384-6500, or the Garfield County Crime Stoppers at 970-945-0101, or to submit a crime tip on the police department’s website, www.glenwoodpolice.com.
