Saturday search sends cops up on Glenwood Springs' rooftops

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — A report of a possibly suicidal person on Saturday evening sent Glenwood Springs police on a search of several downtown rooftops, including the Colorado Mountain College/US Bank building at Eighth and Grand.

According to Glenwood Springs Police Chief Terry Wilson, local police received a relay message from the emergency dispatch center in Colorado Springs about a man who called in saying he was lying on top of a downtown bank building and was considering suicide.

Although the call went to Colorado Springs, Wilson said the person indicated he was in Glenwood Springs.

“We had the fire department help us [with a ladder truck] to get up and check out some roofs, but we didn’t find anyone,” Wilson said.

The incident took place between about 7 and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, before police called off the search, he said.
