Sones: PO’d at the Post Office

Anna Sones, Silverthorne

I would like to add to Jim Ernst’s letter regarding the Silverthorne Post Office state of complete chaos. I went in there January 22 to find a typical orange slip in our box for a “Tub.” Nothing unusual until I came to find that the entire tub was filled with our mail – from October 2012! It included Thanksgiving and Christmas catalogs, coupons for free items at City Market that expired, personal mail, and most upsetting, a letter from the U.S. Census Bureau for my business, which on the envelope states in bold, capital letters, “YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW – Please Complete and Return in 30 Days.” This is not the first time the post office has affected my business in a negative way. It is a constant battle, without getting into detail.

I am somewhat comforted to know that I am not the only one who is extremely disappointed with this post office. While it has never been stellar in the 18 years I have lived here, most recently it is simply awful. I paid 3 times as much to mail a package using UPS last week for fear of its fate using the USPS.

There has to be something going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about that makes the staff behave the way they do. So to their immediate supervisor, please do something before we take our business elsewhere (internet, FedEx, UPS, hand-delivery). The business of the U.S. Postal System in Silverthorne is on a fast course to closure. I hope that isn’t their intent. They could do a lot of damage in the meantime.
