Special Breckenridge Free Ride service New Year’s Eve
Ryan Summerlin December 30, 2010
The Breckenridge Free Ride will offer special after-hours return service from midnight until 2 a.m. New Year’s Eve.
Service on regular Free Ride routes will end at 11:45 p.m. as usual. At midnight another bus will take over, picking up at all the Main Street stops. The bus will run from Main Street to Breckenridge Station where passengers will be able to take a directional bus to any other Free Ride stop in town.
The New Year’s Eve service is a return service only and buses will not pick up at individual stops around town after 11:45 p.m. The last bus will leave Breckenridge Station at 2 a.m.
No beverages or beverage containers of any kind will be allowed on buses. Alcohol will be prohibited on buses and at bus stops.
However, individuals planning to drink alcohol while out for the holiday are encouraged to use the extended services. With a free transportation system serving the entire county there is no excuse for drinking and driving, transit officials said.
Breckenridge transit officials also recommend that people have a plan before leaving home, which includes knowing when and where to catch their bus. They suggest that individuals intending to celebrate the holiday with alcohol bring along a sober friend to help navigate and dress for sub-zero temperatures as alcohol can lower the body’s ability to regulate temperature and increase the risk of hypothermia.
Areas outside of Breckenridge are served by the free county-wide transit system, the Summit Stage. For routes and times visit www.summitstage.com.
