Summit High School athlete of the week: Cameron Bobb

Editor’s note: This is part of a weekly series spotlighting Summit High School athletes, coaches and other dedicated Tigers.

Summit High School senior Cameron Bobb tackles two sports in addition to his schoolwork. He competes as a mountain biker in the fall and as a Nordic skier in winter. Just this summer, Cameron made a splash in the mountain bike-racing scene when he came in first in his age group at the Pennsylvania Gulch Grind, beating out not only local experts but several professionals as well. Now, Cameron is looking to make his last year at Summit High his best one yet.

Why did you choose to participate in these sports?

“I just like having the weight of the sport be on my own shoulders and how dedicated I am to the sport and not relying on a team.”

What makes you passionate about biking?

“You get to explore a lot of places, trails and whatnot when biking that you wouldn’t be able to if you didn’t.”

What makes you passionate about skiing?

“Probably my success levels and just teammates in general, I have some good teammates.”

What were your most memorable moments in your sports?

“My most memorable moment (in biking) was probably this summer when I won the overall race in one of the summer mountain race challenges. I beat all the pros and experts. It was the Pennsylvania Gulch Grind. … It wasn’t really real until they called me to go up onto the podium. The place got really loud, so that’s when it kinda settled in that I had actually just beat all the pros.

“As for skiing it would have to be the two state championships that I won since I’ve been in high school. That was last year — my junior year — and my freshman year.”

What are your goals this season?

“For biking, this season, the high school season we’re racing in right now, I want to be the state champion for varsity this year.

“Skiing, I’d like to win. I’m trying to win both the skate racing and the classic race at the state meet, but also trying to get top three throughout the season.”

What have you learned from your sports?

“Definitely it taught me, not necessarily self control, but self habits, like what to eat, when to eat it, and like healthy habits that you need. And how to push myself to the limit even when I know I can’t go any harder, to keep that constant effort.”

What other activities or hobbies do you have?

“I like to hunt and fish and I like to hike. I’m involved with the Summit Nordic Ski Club.”

What is your favorite professional sports team?

“I don’t know, right now I’d have to say the Broncos.”

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

“Energetic. Outgoing. Pretty funny.”

What’s on your playlist?

“I definitely have a lot of country on there. (There’s) country and some rap and some dub step. Country kind of calms me down but as it gets closer to race time I’ve gotta get pumped up, so that’s when I listen to the other stuff.”

What is your favorite type of movie?

“Probably like an action movie. I don’t really have a favorite (action movie), I just watch them all.”
