Keystone local Katrina Greiner wins Superior 50 Ultramarathon

Katrina Greiner just had the run of a lifetime.

On Sept. 10, the local long-distance runner from Keystone took the overall women's title at the Superior 50-Mile Ultramarathon, held near her former stomping grounds of Lutsen, Minnesota. She finished the trail race in 11 hours 43 minutes to place first for women and 11th overall, including men.

The Superior 100 and 50 Ultramarathons are among the most challenging in North America. Both events follow a route on the Superior Hiking Trail, which climbs a total of 12,500 vertical feet through the rugged wilderness of northern Minnesota. Her new home of Summit County was the perfect venue for training: Greiner is a member of the Vertical Runner running club in Breckenridge before and after her day job as a teacher at Summit County Middle School.
