Mom and dad, it's time to round up the family for an afternoon on the trail.

The third annual Frisco Mountain Goat Kids' Trail Running Series debuted on June 27 and continues today (July 11), with two additional races on July 25 and Aug. 8. Each event features different race distances and courses for each age group: Mini Goats (suggested for kids 4 years old and younger) on half-mile to 1-mile courses; Junior Goats (suggested for kids 5-8 years old) on 1.5 to 2-mile courses; and Senior Goats (suggested for kids 9-13 years old) on a standard 5-kilometer course.

What if your kiddo wants to run any distance? No problem. If a child would like to run a longer or shorter distance than those listed for their age category, they may do so, according to a release from the town, and all participants are encouraged to choose the distance that they would prefer to run. All series events are fun runs, so there will be no timing or awards. Parents are welcome to accompany kids on the race course.

"These races are all about being out on a beautiful summer evening with other kids and parents," said Linsey Joyce, recreation programs manager for the town, in the release. "Summer has always been about playing in the dirt and running around. Here, you're just doing it with 150 of your favorite friends on the beautiful trails at the Frisco Peninsula."

All races and distances begin at 5:45 p.m. at the Frisco Day Lodge (616 Recreation Way in Frisco). It is $15 for participants who register by 9 a.m. on the day of the race. Day-of registration after 9 a.m. is $20 and will be available from 4:30-5:30 p.m. inside the Frisco Adventure Park Day Lodge, located right next to the start line.

Want to run all three of the remaining races? Kids can still register for the whole series for $45 and receive a Mountain Goat Kids' Race t-shirt. Parents and pets may race for free, but they will need to fill out a waiver before racing. To pre-register, visit FriscoRecreation.com or call 970-668-2558.

Kids will need to bring their own bikes, skateboards and golf discs.

Don't feel like running? The series also invites parents to volunteer as course marshals or course sweepers if they choose not to run with their child. Anyone who registers to volunteer by the Monday prior to a Tuesday race (at least) will receive a free race entry for one child.
