Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church present their fifth annual “Candlelight Festival of Lessons and Carols” on Sunday at 6 p.m. at 56 Highway 6 in Dillon. More than ninety years ago in England, the first “Festival Service of Nine Lessons and Carols” was held on Christmas Eve in 1918. It was planned by Eric Milner-White, who at the age of 34 had been appointed Dean of King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England. A revision of the service was made in 1919, involving rearrangement of the lessons and from that date the service has always begun with the hymn “Once in Royal David’s City.” Some carols have been changed over the years and new ones introduced but the backbone of the service, the lessons and prayers, has remained virtually unchanged. Lord of the Mountains welcome all those whose wish to participate in the special worship experience.
