Authorities say the community is not in danger after an inmate failed to return to the Summit County Jail from work release Monday.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Ramon Soto, 35, of Leadville, after he apparently went to Denver without authorization during a scheduled work release Monday.
He is facing a misdemeanor charge of escape.
“Even though the charge is escape, this is considered a walk-away,” Summit County Sheriff John Minor stated in a release on the incident. “There is no concern for the safety of the community, although obviously, once he is back in custody his work release privileges will be revoked.”
Soto reportedly called the staff at the Summit County Jail to let them know he would be late returning from his release because a friend’s car broke down. A warrant for his arrest was issued Tuesday when he had still failed to report to the jail.
He was serving a one-year sentence for a DUI conviction out of Lake County, according to the statement.
