Summit County: Section 8 voucher waiting list is full
September 15, 2009
SUMMIT COUNTY – According to Jennifer Kermode, the executive director of the Summit Combined Housing Authority, local demand is high for the Section 8 housing choice voucher program.
“We still have a two-year waiting list,” she said, and calls to get on the waiting list have not decreased at all. “It’s a closed application process, and we are not taking applications.”
According to Kermode, someone who qualifies for Section 8 can get rental assistance through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Summit Combined Housing Authority currently gives out 54 vouchers to Summit, Park and Clear Creek counties. The amount given to people through the vouchers varies individually.
“All three counties have a high demand,” Kermode added.
