Summit Up 11-22-12: Gobble, gobble, gobble
Ryan Summerlin November 21, 2012
Good morning and welcome to your Thanksgiving edition of Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that can already smell turkey in the oven.
That’s the same turkey, by the way, that one of our Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin, campaigned to overthrow the symbolic bald eagle as the representative of the U.S.A. Arguably, Mr. Franklin had a point.
He argued the eagle was not a good representative of our country: It did not make an honest living, finding food from less honest sources than the brainless, yet cunning turkey.
The turkey: The anchor point of our Thanksgiving Day tables, a true native resident of our country, a bird with a much higher rate of compassion, a fowl fairing with such tantalizing pairings like potatoes, stuffing and yams and jams abound on this delicious holiday that’s finally around with long lost family found.
Now a moment of silence for the could’ve-been-national-bird that’s either baked or fried on your table today.
Happy Thanksgiving. We out.
