Thomas: The moderate Republican: an endangered breed
Ryan Summerlin March 13, 2013
I want to thank Kim McGahey for responding to my letter about the GOP. From his tome, I can conclude that he is part of a shrinking minority. A moderate Republican. I first voted for president in 1964. Johnson defeating Barry Goldwater. Goldwater would be considered too moderate for today’s GOP. Kim is probably reluctant to admit that
the majority of his party is extreme. The U.S. House is controlled by the tea party and over 25 state legislatures are doing the following: Controlling a women’s relationship with her personal physician; fomenting anti-gay marriage laws and engaging in anti-immigration rhetoric. Finally, I would agree to disagree with Kim on Obamacare. We had a “competitive cost saving system” before and it is common knowledge that medical decisions were made by clerks at the Insurance companies. The GOP has to come up with a workable plan that protects patients from wrongful decisions by insurance companies. Repealing the act is too extreme without a meaningful option.
