When Vail-Summit Orthopaedics EMT PJ Bevan had a young male patient recently request a pink cast to honor his mom, a breast cancer survivor, he was touched, to say the least. It also sparked an idea.

“I thought it would be fun to inspire others to do the same,” Bevan said. “And then I realized this would be a great time of year to host a fundraising campaign since we put on so many casts over spring break due to ski injuries.”

With that, P.J. and Vail-Summit Orthopaedics launched a donation idea to raise funds for the Shaw Cancer Center located in Edwards. This past spring, VSO offered all patients in need of a cast the color pink, in honor of breast cancer awareness. For those who choose the color, VSO donated $20 per cast to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center.

Vail-Summit Orthopaedics CEO Chip Webb said the campaign is just one example of VSO’s commitment to the local communities it serves every day.

“We believe that community health encompasses not only the body, but also the mind, and we endeavor to support opportunities that promote wellness and education,” Webb said. “We devote funds to local organizations that focus on healthy activities, community wide interest, and educational opportunities.”
