GRAND JUNCTION – A Grand Junction woman who admitted poisoning her husband’s whiskey with morphine, eye drops and crushed pills has been sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Forty-five-year-old Deone Marie Graham of Grand Junction was sentenced Monday. She pleaded guilty in August to solicitation to commit first-degree murder. Prosecutors say Graham suspected her husband was cheating on her and she wanted him dead to collect his retirement savings.
Court documents showed that Graham directed another woman to buy 2 grams of methamphetamine to poison her husband, explaining she’d heard “3 grams could kill a buffalo.” The woman was a police informant.
The husband, partially blind and sick for three days after drinking some poisoned whiskey, didn’t attend Monday’s sentencing.
