My family and I live along the stretch of Highway 9 that is being recommended for much needed safety improvements. I drive that road everyday, and I can tell you from first-hand experience, it is dangerous. It doesn’t matter if you’re a local resident familiar with the highway or if you’re from out of state. On a winter night, when a deer leaps in front of your car, we all face the same danger. Over the years, I have seen the traffic flow double, making the highway even more dangerous with every passing season. As a parent of two beginner drivers I am very nervous about allowing them to drive this road during the day and especially at night. The installation of the large flashing animal crossing signs has helped, but more must be done. The new highway recommendations would benefit both drivers and wildlife making the drive more pleasurable along this scenic route. As a longtime resident of Grand and Summit counties, I urge everyone to support the effort to make Highway 9 a CDOT priority for the construction that would make this road safer.
