Black on black appears not good enough
The death toll by murder in Chicago over the past decade is greater than the number of American forces who died in Afghanistan since the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom. The number in Chicago, 4265, January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2012 is double that in Afghanistan.
During this period, blacks were the victims 75% of the time as well as offenders. Black on black the same percentage, 75%. 98% of the murder weapons were handguns.
Enter the cable media with wall to wall coverage of the George Zimmerman murder trial. Mr. Zimmerman, a white Mexican as described by reporters on N.B.C., is accused of killing Trayvon Martin, a saintly young black teenager, as portrayed by most of the liberal media, in cold blood. Mr. Zimmerman claims it was self-defense. Most of the mainstream media portray him as a gun happy racist fellow who enjoyed the neighborhood watch role and was just waiting for a Trayvon Martin to come along.
I have no idea what happened that night and would not presume to reach a verdict on the little information I do have, however, I do wonder why this trial has consumed the media, and by all accounts, enough of the public to make it profitable for such extensive media coverage.
Look at the black on black handgun murders in Chicago alone. No media attention. The public does not seem interested. Are we and the media only interested in it if it is a so called race murder, specifically a black murdered by any race other than black? Do we and the media not care about a black killing another black? It appears as though this is the case, I’m ashamed to say.
As a side note: Whether he is guilty or not, my hunch is Zimmerman will spend time in jail. The media and racial politics will demand it. A white Mexican killed a black.
