Walking through the towns of Breckenridge or Frisco – or taking a drive down towards the Dillon Marina — it seems as if everyone is outdoors: eating, drinking, lounging, soaking up the warmer weather as winter gives way to spring.

Summit County has many wonderful options for outdoor dining, with some superb settings for taking in a view of the mountains or the bustle of lakeside boating activity or for people-watching in a quaint downtown setting.

Here are five of our favorites that are slightly off the beaten path; some you may know, others may be a new discovery. During this Mud Season we hope you’ll take time to meet up with friends, grab a drink or dinner and enjoy the view from one of these wonderful outside dining spaces.

Breckenridge Restaurants

Angel’s Hollow Deck

113 South Ridge Street, Breckenridge

(970) 453-8585

“Loud Music! Great Atmosphere! Lots of Fun!” The perfect place to meet friends for drinks and some Colorado Mexican fare, the deck at Angel’s Hollow gets busy fast — even in the off season — and attracts a friendly local crowd that doesn’t mind sharing tables. The deck overlooks the historic district of Breckenridge and offers a great vantage point for enjoying an untarnished view of the Ten Mile Range. Settle into the relaxed atmosphere, order one of Angel’s Hollow’s famously strong margaritas and make some new friends! Open for lunch, dinner, appetizers, and drinks. Will close in early May, and re-open in June.

The Crown Patio

215 South Main Street/Breckenridge

(970) 453-6022

Recently re-opened after renovations, The Crown Café and Tavern is known for its quaint, comfy atmosphere and delicious coffee. Walk out back and down a quick flight of stairs and you’ll find an outdoor patio that overlooks the Blue River and offers an upfront view of the Ten Mile Range. The coffee is still a major draw – but when Happy Hour rolls around, you’ll be tempted to switch to one of the 15 Colorado craft beers on the bar menu, or sample the current favorite cocktail, the “Adult Root beer Float”: Chocolate Porter, vanilla ice cream, and a splash of Breck Bourbon! Happy Hour prices from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Dillon Restaurants

Pug Ryan’s Lakeside Tiki Bar

150 Marina Drive/Dillon Marina

(970) 468-5100

Follow a winding side road down to the Dillon Marina and you’ll come upon this classic island Tiki Bar perched on the shores of Lake Dillon. Grab a seat on the sunny deck, and order a Rum Runner or one of Pug’s craft beers. You can catch some rays or enjoy an evening sunset, as boats pull in and out of the marina. And the spectacular views of mountains, water, and sky are hard to beat. The Tiki Bar at the Dillon Marina was voted one of the top 5 Beach Bars in Colorado by the Denver Post. Opening after Memorial Day, from 11:30 a.m. to sunset.

Frisco Restaurants

Boatyard Patio

304 Main Street, Frisco

(970) 668-4728

Tucked behind this local favorite restaurant is a charming outdoor deck, open now for lunch and dinner. From this backyard hideaway you can enjoy downtown Frisco’s great view of Mount Royal, while dining on delicious contemporary American cuisine or a casual wood-fired pizza. “Pending snow” a busy manager informed me, “the deck is open for business! And that’s for lunch, drinks, appetizers, and dinner.”

Silverthorne Restaurants

Murphy’s Irish Pub Outdoor Patio

501 Blue River Parkway/Silverthorne

(970) 468-2457

A local hang-out featuring pub food at affordable prices, and a friendly family atmosphere. Enjoy a round of poker, or head outside for a game of horseshoes and stay for drinks or dinner on the back patio, weather permitting. June 26-27th Murphy’s will be hosting a weekend music festival, with food and drink specials, music, and dancing. Open for lunch, drinks, and dinner. Murphy’s offers a special menu for kids.
