Nine musicians participate in Young Composers Competition
Following the annual call for entries for Summit Music and Arts’ Young Composers Competition, nine musicians from around the region will have the opportunity to perform their works in public.
The composers were previously scheduled to all play in a concert at the end of April, however, due to the small number of entrants the composers will instead perform as an opening act during the Summit Music and Arts 2019-20 concert season. The season is set to begin this fall.
“Although the number of submissions to the competition were much lower than ever before, the compositions were of a uniformly high standard and certainly are worthy of a performance opportunity,” the press release states.
The competition was open to composers ages 7-18 from Clear Creek, Eagle, Grand, Lake Park, Routt and Summit counties. The nine musicians and their composed works are:
Dalilah Caldwell, Breckenridge: “Fun Times”
Kayla daSilva, Breckenridge: “The Rookie League”
Sophia Elsass, Breckenridge: “The Runes of the Forgotten”
Corey Johnson, Silverthorne: “Lost at Sea”
Phoenix Meyer, Breckenridge: “Up and Down Days”
Abigail Schmidt, Silverthorne: “Dawn to Dusk”
Jack Walsh, Steamboat Springs: “Sonata for Piano, Violin, and Flute in A minor, Op.3”
Ethan Windsor, Breckenridge: “The River of Spirits”
Lily Windsor, Breckenridge: “The Lost Highlands”
