See Aretha Franklin in ‘Amazing Grace’ Tuesday

For June’s Summit Film Society screening, the Breck Film Fest is bringing the concert film of Aretha Franklin’s hit gospel album “Amazing Grace” to Breckenridge.

The movie “Amazing Grace” brings never-before-seen footage of The Queen of Soul’s performance of the eponymous record at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles in 1972. Stored in the Warner Bros. vault for years due to difficulties syncing the audio tracks with the visuals, the film premiered in 2018.

Critics called the film “soul-shaking,” while Rolling Stone proclaimed, “it will make you feel as if you’ve seen the face of God.”

The screening begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, at Breckenridge Theater, 121 S. Ridge St. Last month’s Summit Film Society event sold out and its highly recommended tickets, which cost $12 or are free for Gold Ticket Club members, are bought in advance. Visit BreckFilmFest.org or call 970-547-3100 to purchase.
