Summit Music and Arts is gearing up for its 2015-16 Concert Series with a Jazz Nite @ the Pavilion fundraiser on Thursday, Aug. 20. The local nonprofit’s director, artist in residence and keyboardist Len Rhodes and vocalist-actress Kelly Renoux will headline the event at the Silverthorne Pavilion, joined by local bassist Mark Jeffery and Colorado Springs drummer and entertainer Jerry Brown.

The concert will benefit the organization’s educational programming, which enables concert musicians to engage local youth through in-school activities in Summit County, as well as providing free tickets for youth to attend the concert series.

For this first time this year, school classes were offered to young musicians interested in composing original music, which led to the first Summit Music and Arts Young Composer Composition for youth ages 10 to 18 residing in Clear Creek, Eagle, Grand, Lake, Park, Routt and Summit counties. Summit Music and Arts and the Breckenridge Music Festival’s Music in the Schools sponsored the classes and the competition, which were funded by The Summit Foundation, a partnership that will continue for the 2015-16 school year.

Jazz Nite @ the Pavilion also provides an opportunity for Summit Music and Arts to announce the lineup for its annual concert series promoting Colorado-based artists, and season tickets will be available for purchase. The organization encourages local visual artists to present their work during the concert series, as well.

About the artists

Rhodes received diplomas from the Royal Academy of Music, and the London College of Music, with continuing studies in composition at the University of London. He is a fellow of the Incorporated Society of Musicians in the United Kingdom, and his career as a music director, arranger, composer, pianist, organist and teacher has spanned more than 40 years.

Compositions, arrangements and commissions include BBC Radio, Trinity College London, Kennedy Center, the Virginia Shakespeare Festival and Stage West/Calgary, Canada, as well as private commissions. Rhodes was recently signed to Burning Girl Records (United Kingdom).

Renoux is a local singer and actress. When not onstage, she is the director of employee experience for Copper Mountain Resort. She has performed extensively with the Lake Dillon Theatre Company and Breckenridge Backstage Theatre over the past 15 years. Some favorite roles include Patsy Cline in “Always, Patsy Cline,” Nancy in “Oliver,” Mary Sunshine in “Chicago” and Rita in “Lucky Stiff.” She has most recently been seen this past year doing cabaret shows at Lake Dillon Theatre and at private events.
