On Tuesday, Aug. 18, Breckenridge author Anne Reizer will be at the Next Page Books & Nosh in Frisco to sign copies of her new release, “Beautiful Encore: Makeovers for Mature Women.”

The book combines nearly a dozen articles on health and beauty written by doctors and professionals with 27 before-and-after makeover stories from women ages 60 to 87. Two of the models chosen for the makeovers were Breckenridge residents Gin Simmons and Maggie Ducayet.

“Holy smokes, the before and after pics were amazing,” wrote Next Page owner Karen Berg in a recent newsletter about the event. “It is never too early or too late to get some tips from an expert, and Anne clearly knows her stuff. We can’t wait for this interactive event.”

When doing research for the book, Reizer discovered that there weren’t many, or any, books that showed 60-plus women looking “sensational.” It’s an age demographic that’s underrepresented, she said, a group of women who can easily be in the shadow. Through “Beautiful Encore,” she hopes to show older women that they don’t have to throw in the towel and resign themselves to looking dowdy or settling for a lesser role in society.

“Looking good is not an accident. It’s not superficial to improve your appearance,” she said. “We can meet these challenges on our own terms, focusing on our best features and attributes, the things that are unique and worthwhile about who we are. Beauty begets confidence. There is power in taking care of yourself, inside and out.”

Reizer said that now more than ever, women of all walks of life have access to the tools of beauty.

“It’s a richer, freer journey for mature women today than it was for our mothers and grandmothers,” she said. “We have so many more options.”

She said she hopes that senior women will find something that speaks to them in the pages of “Beautiful Encore” and that it will be used as a springboard for conversation among women of all ages.

“After all, soon or later, all of us are going to be older women,” she said.
