Blue Stag hosts Firkin Friday party
Starting this summer, the Blue Stag in Breckenridge is hosting a First Friday Firkin party. What the firk is a firkin? A firkin is a keg used for cask conditioning beer. Have you ever seen a clip of an old sailor or bar keep from the 19th century tapping a wooden barrel with a pin and mallet and beer spewing out everywhere? That is the tradition the Blue Stag is trying to bring back.
The party is on Friday, June 3 from 4-6 p.m. The tapping of the firkin will be at 4:15 sharp. For this Friday, Blue Stag partnered up with Elevation Brewing Co. out of Poncha Springs, Colorado. Using the First Cast IPA as a base beer, lime zest, basil and serrano peppers have been added in to the cask with a little extra Citra Hop. Beers are $6 and come with a complimentary skewer.
The theme of every porch party is tropical — pineapples, pink flamingos and tiki torches, so dress accordingly.
Bakers' Brewery hosts BeerAversary party
The Bakers' Brewery is hosting its BeerAversary party on Monday, June 6, to celebrate its one year anniversary of its four first brews on tap. Starting at 5 p.m., the first 50 people in the door get one free beer. The brewery is also doing a mini-beer pairing dinner with a select sampling of the menu, all in small portions on one plate, with four small beers to go with that for $25. The menu includes steak with the Barking Dog Brown, a new pesto pasta with blackened shrimp with the Belgian Rebellion pale ale, a salad with the Buzzbird Belgian Wheat, and a baja fish taco with citrus salsa paired with the Cotton Mouth Killer. A dessert pairing will be available for an $5 extra, and includes a Raspberry Mint Stout with a stout-infused brownie, fresh raspberries and whipped cream. Co-owner and brewmaster Cory Forster would like to say thanks to the community for a great year.
