The Summit County Library hosts the annual Summit County Friends of the Library Summer Book Sale on Aug. 5-6 in the Frisco County Commons’ Mt. Royal and Buffalo Mt. Rooms. There are hard-cover books, CDs, books on tape and DVDs. The book sale is in two rooms again and will host a “Bag of Books” time from 3–5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6.
On Friday the prices are: Hardcover books $3, DVDs and paperbacks $2, CD’s, children’s books and books-on- tape $1 and videos are free.
Then on Saturday hardcover books are $2; DVDs and paperbacks are $1 and children’s books and tapes are $.50. Also on Saturday from 3–5 p.m. is the Bag of Books time with one bag for $3 and two bags for $5. Simply fill a bag to the brim with books, CDs, books on cassette tape and DVDs and for one low price.
The money generated from the book sale will provide much-needed funds for the libraries and is used to sponsor programs, which benefit both residents and visitors in Summit County.
More volunteers are needed to cover the expanded space. The library needs assistance for set up on Aug. 4 beginning at 3 p.m. and during the sale, which runs on Friday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, help is requested during the take-down process, which will begin promptly at 5 p.m. at the completion of the sale on Saturday.
If you are available at any of these times and would like to help out your local library, please call the Main Library at (970) 668-5555. To learn more of other volunteer opportunities and how you can help the Summit County Libraries, please visit the website at summitcountylibraries.org; “like” on Facebook; follow on Twitter and Pinterest; or come by and check with staff at any of the three locations, in Frisco, Breckenridge and Silverthorne.
Find Waldo in Frisco
Where’s Waldo? In Frisco, of course. The famous children’s book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting 25 local businesses throughout the community this summer. Find Waldo Local is a summer vacation activity to support local businesses and the Shop Local movement in the community, including these partners: Next Page Books and Nosh; Colorado Special Tees; Little Bears Boutique; Uncle John’s Farm Stand; Abbey’s Coffee; Peppino’s Pizza; Rebel Sports and Little Earth Art Studio.
Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Frisco!” passport, which contains the names of all the participating sites, and get their passport stamped or signed for each Waldo they spot. Collecting store stamps or signatures at 20 or more businesses will entitle diligent seekers entry into a grand-prize drawing on July 24, with the top prize being a six-volume deluxe set of Waldo books. This year, participants can also #ColorWaldoAndWin: when they share a completed coloring sheet of Waldo on Instagram, they’ll be entered into a drawing to be one of five lucky winners of a deluxe prize pack.
Waldo is the creation of Martin Handford, whose entertaining drawings of crowd scenes swept the world in the late ’80s. Since then, the “Where’s Waldo?” books have held a cherished spot on bookstore shelves the world over. There are now over 65 million Waldo books in print worldwide, and they’ve been translated into over thirty languages. An entire generation has grown up searching for Waldo and his cast of wandering companions.
In celebration of Waldo’s longevity and popularity, his American publisher, Candlewick Press, is once again teaming up with the American Booksellers Association and 250 independent bookstores across the country for some hide-and-seek fun to encourage communities to patronize their local businesses. There is no charge to participate, and the hunt lasts for the entire month of July. For more information about hunting for Waldo in Frisco, call Next Page Books and Nosh at (970) 668-9291.
