The Breckenridge Backstage Theatre presents “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” opening July 29 and playing through Aug. 14 at the Breckenridge Theater.

Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play — and the Outer Critics Circle and Drama League and Drama Desk play awards — “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” is a “sunny new play about gloomy people” (New York Times). Siblings Vanya and Sonia live out their days in an endless, bleak tableau in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. All seems numbingly mundane until in sweeps hurricane Masha, their fading movie star sister, with her shiny new boy toy and a big announcement. Brimming with outrageous dialogue, Christopher Durang’s latest madcap masterpiece serves up family drama with comic savagery and poses the question: if you could choose your family, would you necessarily choose your family?

“Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” stars Kevin Hart (Avenue Theatre’s “November”) as Vanya, LuAnn Buckstein (Town Hall’s “Annie”) as Sonia, and Gina Walker (Stage Door’s “Calendar Girls”) as Masha. The show also features Keith Rabin Jr. (Impact’s “Avenue Q”) as Spike, Edith Weiss (DCPA’s “Sweet and Lucky”) as Cassandra, and Carolyn Lohr (BBT”s “Shrek the Musical”) as Nina. The show is directed and costume designed by Pam Clifton (BBT’s “Sylvia”). Set design is by M. Curtis Grittner (BBT’s “Greater Tuna”). Lighting design is by Shannon Johnson (Candlelight’s “South Pacific”). Property design by Terry Green (BBT’s “Spamalot”). Produced and sound designed by Christopher Willard (BBT’s “The Syringa Tree”).

Vanya et al opens July 29 and runs through Aug. 14. Full performance schedule is July 29, 30, Aug. 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 6 at 2 p.m., and Aug. 7, 14 at 6:30 p.m.

All shows will be held at the Breckenridge Theatre, 121 S. Ridge St. in Breckenridge. Presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York, the show contains strong language and adult situations.

Show sponsors are BHH Partners and St. Anthony’s Centura Health.
