The Summit Choral Society, Summit Concert Band, and Summit County Orchestra are teaming up for an evening at the Riverwalk Center for the inaugural High Country Holidays Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

The musicians of Summit County are teaming up for an evening at the Riverwalk Center for the inaugural High Country Holidays Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Under the esteemed direction of music directors Beth Steele and Jill Schroeder-Dorn, the Summit Choral Society, Summit Concert Band and Summit County Orchestra are pooling their resources to put on a concert at the Riverwalk Center after outgrowing their previous venue at the Silverthorne Pavilion.

"This undertaking is a big move for these volunteer groups and we are very much looking forward to serving our community this holiday season with our time and talents," said Cecile Forsberg, Summit County Orchestra Board president, in a statement. "This experience would not be possible without each and every one of our incredibly dedicated volunteers."

The concert will kick off the holiday season in Summit County with a little something for everyone including the special guest appearance of the one and only jolly old Saint Nick. In addition to the performance, the musicians will be hosting a holiday cookie sale the day of the performance starting at 5 p.m. Be sure to stop by the Riverwalk to pick up homemade holiday treats. Everyone has gotten involved in the spirit of volunteering this year, including Beth Steele's mother, who will not only be performing on horn, but also contributed handmade holiday ceramic plates to go along with the treats.

The performance will feature a wide variety of festive, secular, sacred, Christmas and Chanukah selections including pieces like "A Charlie Brown Christmas," "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers," and "It's the Most Wonderful Time of Year." Cellist Jim Kohn and pianist Adrienne Sielaff will be featured as soloists on a rendition of "Stille Nacht." In addition, there will be a rendition of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite" in only three minutes including all of the highlights from the original 20-minute suite. The Summit Choral Society will also be performing works by famed British choral composer John Rutter.

In addition to the three ensembles, many talented young musicians from the Summit High School and Summit Middle School will be joining the ensemble as soloists and members. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" will feature 10 talented eighth-grade voices in Summit County and "Polar Express" will feature two young soloists. Their teachers are also in on the action this year both performing and coaching these young musicians and the Summit County Orchestra would like to thank teachers Mark Clark, Karen Olsen, Donna Clark, and Mark Koob.

The event is free and open to the public. There is a $5 suggested donation to help support these local volunteer groups. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information call (303) 506-1446.
