Free tribute to U2 in Dillon

U2 tribute band Under a Blood Red Sky will play a free show at the Dillon Amphitheatre tonight as part of the Friday Night Concert Series. Under a Blood Red Sky passionately recreates authentic U2 concerts. Covering the “War” tour in 1983 to present day, each show has amazed fans with their ability to recreate famous U2 shows and has solidified their reputation for sold-out venues — including the world-famous Red Rocks. The music runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Visit www.townofdillon.com for more information.

Auditory experiments at AOB

Kronen will play a free show at Alma’s Only Bar tonight. Using years of jazz and classical music theory in addition to profound knowledge of hearing science, Kronen breaks the rules of traditional Western music theory. Instead, the experimental electronic rock, (consisting of unique chord progressions and non-Western modes of music) utilizes nonconventional instrument arrangements, meter and rhythm. Lyrically, the social commentary pushes listeners to be introspective. Acoustically, the music is designed to toy with the psychoacoustic phenomena occurring within the listener’s auditory system. The music starts at 9:30 p.m. Visit www.almasonlybar.com for more information.

Saturday

Cirque Du Wheels hosts band

Stray Dog and the Believers (formerly the Ron Herrera project) will be appearing Saturday at Keystone on the main stage in River Run Village as part of the Cirque Du Wheels bike festival. The band occasionally has three percussionists, which sets it apart, with third percussionist Rob Quinn playing with the band when schedules permit. Stray Dog and the Believers will be fresh off a performance at the state fair on Thursday. The band’s Santana and Allman Brothers jam covers are their trademark. For more information, call (303) 522-0010.

Frisco has a dose of the Fab Four

Private Gripweed’s Tribute to The Beatles will come to The Barkley Ballroom in Frisco on Saturday. Private Gripweed is not your average Beatles Tribute band with mop tops playing album versions of “Love Me Do” and “Please Please Me.” The Boulder quintet goes well beyond the confines of a typical tribute by transforming the melodic hooks and psychedelic flare of the Fab Four onto the power and spontaneity of the live stage. Private Gripweed has taken the painstaking effort to dutifully interpret their predecessors’ artistic vision with a show that is as energetic as it is sonically rich and diverse. The free show starts at 9 p.m. Visit www.barkleyballroom.com for more information.

ABBA, fireworks in Dillon

ABBA Fab will play a free concert at the Dillon Amphitheatre on Saturday as part of the End of the Summer Celebration. ABBA Fab is a stunning tribute to the music of ABBA, featuring the sensational Anne Davies, Chelsea Faulds, Scotty Pearson, Nick Davies and a lineup of stellar musicians. This multimedia production is a tribute to some of the greatest music produced in the 1970s and 1980s, including monster hits such as “Waterloo,” “Fernando,” “Honey Honey,” “Dancing Queen” and countless others. From the earliest hits to “Mama Mia,” ABBA Fab will take you on an ABBA journey that is unmatched. The music runs from 7 to 9 p.m., followed by fireworks. For more information, visit www.townofdillon.com.

Local music rocks the Snake

Breckenridge band Salem will play a show at the Snake River Saloon in Keystone on Saturday. Salem performs Todd Anders Johnson’s socially conscious compositions blending funk, hip-hop and electronica. The band has played many competitive snowsports events, including the 48 Straight King of the Mountain in Sun Valley, the US Freeskiing Open, The US Snowboarding Grand Prix, Breckenridge Spring Massive, Keystone River Run Rocks and the North Face Masters of Snowboarding. Doors open at 4 p.m., and the music starts at 9:30. Call (970) 468-2788 for more information.

Sunday

Blues man plays The Barkley

Four-time Blues Guitar Artist of the year and Grammy nominee Tab Benoit will rock The Barkley Ballroom in Frisco on Sunday. Benoit plays hot, down-dirty, greasy blues for those who know that the bayou and blues go together like alligators and Cajun-spiced marshmallows, like cold beer and jambalaya. That’s where blues-guitar slinger Benoit comes from: Louisiana, where hurricanes slam the heart but can’t take the soul and where blues became the heart of American music. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the music starts at 8:15. Sammy Dee Morton opens with his Louisiana and Texas-style blues. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the show. For more information, visit www.barkleyballroom.com.

Thursday

Jam out with Arnie J. Green

The Dillon Dam Brewery will host an open mic night with Arnie J. Green on Thursday for qualified musicians age 21 and older. Jam on some rock and R&B and other creative tunes with this local legend. Call (970) 262-7777 for more information.
