Meet Your Forest: FDRD hosts volunteer opportunities to get on the trail (column)

The Summit County Seniors and the Summit Mountain Biking groups are excited to announce the 7th annual Friends of the Dillon Ranger District Fundraiser Party with entertainment by our talented mountain-biking friend and most popular entertainer in the county, Denny Foley, who will once again donate his time and talent for the evening. Both the Seniors and the mountain bikers provide lots of volunteer labor on forest projects through the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District (FDRD). In addition to the hours of physical volunteer labor that our members will provide moving rocks and dirt, dollars are also needed to plan these projects and buy necessary materials, hence the purpose of this fundraiser.

The event is Wednesday, June 22 at Summit County Senior and Community Center in Frisco near the County Commons Building. Doors open at 6 p.m. for appetizers and cocktail hour, followed by dancing with Doo Wop Denny from 7-9 p.m. The cost is $20 per person with tables of eight available and encouraged. There will be 18 tables or 144 people and we hope to sell out quickly. Tickets are available from Linda Boyd, 194 Summerwood Drive, Dillon, Colorado, 80435, (719) 332-0841, lgbinthemountains@yahoo.com.

Checks should be payable to the Summit County Seniors with "FDRD Fundraiser" in the memo line. No credit cards (sorry); 100 percent of the ticket price are tax-deductible as a charitable donation to FDRD. You will not get a physical ticket. Linda will keep a list of paid attendees to check you in. You will get your tax receipt from Linda the evening of the event (or if you can't make it, she will send it out to you at a later date).

We provide ice, water, napkins, paper plates and cups for drinks. You can bring your own drinks and appetizers to share. We will set up the donated food on tables for all to share and enjoy.

People from all over the nation will be out on this day to contribute to their local public lands. We know how much you love ours so come give us a hand. Pug Ryan's will be supplying a post-project barbecue and beer for all project participants. You won't want to miss this one.

2016 Willow Tree Plant

With the help of strong volunteers (and gum boots), we'll be wading through the muck to help stabilize the banks of Tenmile Creek. Willows provide good habitat for our local fish populations and will hold the bank in place during the high water seasons. The shoots have been prepared and we just need some help installing them. Come plant a forest and enhance our watersheds.
