EAGLE — Off-road motorcycle racing is coming to the Eagle County Fairgrounds on Saturday.

Moto Mayhem — the very name conjures up those booming voice commercials that pronounced "you won't need your whole seat, just the edge of it" — will feature arena enduro-style racing for adults and kids. Races will be divided by ability level and age as competitors will face various obstacles as they attack the track.

Head-to-head format

"Until you see it, it is hard to understand how enjoyable it is. There is something going on everywhere," said Jason Lesure, event promoter.

Lesure explained races feature up to 15 competitors at a time on the track, and the racers are pitted against one another in a head-to-head format. That means spectators can try to take in the overall action or they can focus in on individual battles.

"There's bikes crashing and people getting stuck everywhere," Lesure said. "It's a phenomenal spectator sport."

Eagle is the first stop for a 2017 racing season that will include competitions in Delta, Montrose and Mesa County. Lesure noted anyone who can operate an off-road bike can find an appropriate age and ability class during these events. Competitors can register at the event or register online at MontroseMotoMayhem.com.

This weekend marks the second time Moto Mayhem has visited Eagle. Lesure said he scheduled an event in Eagle at the urging of local members of the Rocky Mountain Sports Riders Group.

This past September, the event came after a spat of dicey weather, which hampered the spectator numbers. Lesure opted to change his scheduled Eagle visit to June in hopes of having better weather and larger crowds.

Tickets to Moto Mayhem are $15 for adults (ages 12 and older) and $10 for children (ages 5 to 11).
