The inaugural Breckenridge Wine Classic is a new experience in Colorado where master winemakers, chefs and guests gather to play, wine and dine in Breckenridge on Sept. 15-17. Experience more than 100 food artisans, wineries, breweries, distilleries, epicurean purveyors and locally-made products at this food and wine festival. As part of the event, the National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) will be teaming up with sommelier Jim Santangelo to present a seminar entitled Bach & Vino — Taste of Music on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1–2:30 p.m. in the Imperial Ballroom at Beaver Run Resort.
Musicians from the National Repertory Orchestra will perform a musical number influenced by the style of the wine selected by Santangelo. A small food plate will follow to match the music and wine. Following each course, a discussion will follow on why the music, wine and food has been paired and selected.
"The Taste of Music seminar will be a complete sensory experience from the light crisp bubbles of a sparkling wine, rich buttery delicacies, to the full body sonorities of Elgars Salut D'amour," said Cecile Forsberg, artistic and operations director for the NRO, in a statement. "The event has been a delight to create and attendees will have an intimate experience from the wine, to the food, to the music that is sure to captivate."
The NRO musicians who will be performing include Daniel Lim, cello, Michael Chien, violin and Mia Orosco, violin. Lim holds degrees from the New England Conservatory and the Cleveland Institute of Music. His orchestral experience includes performances with various ensembles such as The Canton Symphony, The Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra, Cleveland Pops and American Youth Symphony. Chien is currently a Masters of Music candidate at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Born and raised in Cos Cob, Connecticut, Chien began his violin studies at age 9. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in music at Vanderbilt University, where he is studying music performance and economics. A Texas native, Orosco began studying classical violin at age 6. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance at Baylor University. An avid fiddler, Orosco won the title of National Fiddle Champion in 2012, becoming the youngest female to ever do so.
