National Repertory Orchestra presents “Strings & Ivory” to support Summit County nonprofits

The National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) announces the return of five talented 2015 NRO Alumni musicians. The Strings & Ivory concert will take place on Friday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Lord of the Mountains Church in Dillon. A complimentary reception featuring wine and food will follow the concert. The musicians include violinists Victor Beyens, Timothy Steeves, Maria Park and Sophie Verhaeghe, and pianist Lawrence Quinnett. Each musician will be showcasing their talents through solo works, duos and larger ensemble pieces. The repertoire will include spirited and varied pieces from Brahms, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Bach and Vivaldi.

The proceeds from ticket sales will benefit six nonprofits in Summit County: Timberline Learning Center, Advocates for Victims of Assault, Breckenridge Ambassadors Scholarship Fund, Keystone Science School, Summit Community Care Clinic, and Family and Intercultural Resource Center.

Beyens, 23, is a French violinist from Clermont-Ferrand. Victor’s family moved to the United States when he was 15. He received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in violin performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has participated in the Brevard Music Center, Boston University, Tanglewood Institute, Interlochen Arts Camp and International Music Academy of Pilsen music festivals. Beyens was the winner of the Jan and Beattie Wood concerto competition. Victor is currently the acting concertmaster of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra as well as a first violin section member of the Firelands Symphony. He plays on a fine Italian violin on loan to him by the Virtu Foundation.



Canadian violinist Steeves is developing a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and advocate of contemporary music. Timothy made his solo debut with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and has since performed with orchestras in both Canada and the United States in repertoire ranging from Corelli to Corigliano. He has performed in Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and at the Salzburger Festspiele. Timothy has also been a member of the Aspen, Banff, and Schleswig-Holstein Festival orchestras. He is a founding member of the new music ensemble Latitude 49, which is currently Ensemble in Residence at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Timothy is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts at Rice University.

Quinnett is an active concert pianist who has played solo and chamber music in the U.S., United Kingdom and the Caribbean. He has given performances and master classes in New York, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Tennessee, the Carolinas and Florida. Quinnett’s formative teachers have included Carolyn Cloud-Absher, Jane Gardiner, Dr. Jon Maisonpierre, and Dr. Douglas Weeks. He holds the Doctor of Music (D.M.) degree from Florida State University, where he studied with Dr. Read Gainsford.



Park, from Seoul, Korea, has just finished her bachelor’s degree in violin performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has previously attended Kyungwon University in Korea, and Windsor Young Soloist program in England. Park has performed with the Go-Yang Philharmonic Orchestra. Currently, she is a second violinist in the Commodore Quartet, working and performing with members of the Artis, Brentano, Emerson, Juilliard, Tokyo String Quartets, Albers Trio, the Daedalus Quartet, and the Takacs Quartet. Park received the James and Lola Faust Chamber Music Scholarship from Mu Phi Epsilon.

A Colorado native, Verhaeghe received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan and recently completed her Master of Music at Boston University. She has played with numerous orchestras, including Boston’s critically acclaimed Discovery Ensemble, the Boston Philharmonic, Lansing Symphony, and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. Verhaeghe is also a semi-finalist for the New World Symphony. This fall, she will enter the Artist Diploma program at the University of Texas — Austin.
