Powder Keg: Second-annual Brewers’ Bike Ride brings Summit brewers together
June 12, 2015
It was so much fun the first time around that they decided to make it an annual thing. On Tuesday, June 9, Summit County brewers, beer reps and friends embarked upon the second-annual Brewers' Bike Ride, a leisurely cruise around the county to celebrate brewing camaraderie and local beer.
The route took the brew crew from the Breckenridge Brew Pub down the road to Broken Compass Brewing, skirting Highway 9 on the bike path to Backcountry Brewery in Frisco, and then around the lake to Pug Ryan's Tiki Bar, before heading down the hill to Dillon Dam Brewery and finishing at The Bakers' Brewery.
"It's a really good group of people that you don't get to hang out with all at the same time," said Stephanie Sadler, co-founder of The Bakers' Brewery, the newest addition to Summit's brewing scene. "It's kind of a crazy adventure."
Jason Ford, head brewer at Broken Compass, said everyone in the Summit brewing community has been absolutely stellar since he and brewery co-founders Jo Ford and David Axelrod opened their doors a little more than a year ago, and the Brewers' Bike Ride is now one of his favorite days of the year.
"I was an engineer before this, and everything was sign this contract, sign that contract — you can't do this; you can't do that," he said. "This industry is the exact opposite. It's ridiculously refreshing. Anything I've ever needed, I'll send out an email and five minutes later I'll have a reply from everybody. I love this group up here."
Axelrod said as the new kids on the block, all of the other brewers have been super welcoming and helpful.

"It's the most welcoming thing ever, such a great group of people," he said. "Everyone's doing their own kind of thing, and it's so fun to be a part of it. It's a fabulous group of people to be around."
