The 2014 Summit Reads Community Project is gearing up for its first event, a discussion of the committee’s book choice, “Getting Green Done: Hard Truths from the Front Lines of the Sustainability Revolution,” by Auden Schendler.

The series will kick off with the first of three book discussions at The Next Page bookstore on Tuesday, March 11, at 10 a.m. All Summit County readers are invited to this free event.

“The Summit Reads selection committee unanimously chose ‘Getting Green Done’ because of its focus on meaningful action to preserve our natural water and energy resources,” said Nancy Karklins, book discussion leader for Tuesday’s event. “Our community has made great strides in addressing sustainability. Auden Schendler shows in his book how industry and government must follow citizens’ good example by taking responsibility for preserving our environment. He writes with authority and a touch of humor on relevant issues that concern us all.”

The Next Page bookstore hosts two monthly book discussion groups. Dates, times and book titles are posted on the store’s website, http://www.nextpagebooks.com/events, and in the store, or readers can sign up for a monthly e-blast. Both clubs are open to anyone who enjoys a lively discussion.

“Every year, we look forward to being a part of the collaborative effort of the Summit Reads project,” said Karen Berg, Next Page owner. “Encouraging a love of books and reading is what we are all about, and it is such fun to work with so many others who share our passion. The reach throughout the community is just incredible when we work together.”

Copies of this year’s book, “Getting Green Done,” are available at Summit County Libraries for $10 and at The Next Page bookstore in Frisco.

The Summit County Libraries, Summit County Rotary, Summit Daily News, CSU-Extension, The Next Page bookstore, Colorado Mountain College and the Holiday Inn sponsor Summit Reads.
