Veterans invited to Breckenridge Backstage Theatre’s ‘Hairspray’
The Breckenridge Backstage Theatre (BBT) and the Summit County Veterans Service Office are partnering to treat local veterans to an evening of theater at the Riverwalk Center. Veterans are offered free tickets for the performance of the play “Hairspray” at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2.
“To promote the free services available to veterans located in Summit County, we are proud to offer this outstanding musical,” Summit County veterans service officer Tom Byledbal said in a statement.
Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score, “Hairspray” is a perfect end to BBT’s summer season (which included “Chicago”). Tap your feet to the beat as Tracy Turnblad and friends triumph over high school bullies, racism and enemies everywhere of big girls with big hair. There will be musical favorites such as “Welcome to the Sixties” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” Veterans are welcome to see the Sept. 2 performance at the Riverwalk Center for free; their significant others can receive a discounted ticket price of $25 and their children at a discounted price of $10 a ticket. Tickets, available on a first-come, first-served basis, can be reserved only by calling the Breckenridge Backstage Theatre at (970) 453-0199. Veterans’ tickets must be reserved in advance of the show. Byledbal will give a very brief presentation on available veterans’ services.
The Summit County Veterans Service Office provides veterans with information and assistance related to VA health care benefits, copies of military discharges, home loan eligibility certificates, service-connected disability compensation, VA pensions and other needs. The office is located at the Frisco Workforce Center, 602 Galena St., Frisco. For more information, visit SummitCountyCO.gov/veterans.
