There’s something about the spring season that just screams the need for renewal.

That may involve something as minimal as changing the color of the petunias in the front flower bed or as massive as installing a whole new deck. And just as the season is the impetus for change, the annual Western Slope Home & Rec Expo is the venue for inspiration.

Billed as the largest event of its kind in western Colorado, the expo is slated for Saturday and Sunday at the Eagle River Center at the Eagle County Fairgrounds. The expo features everything from pillows to pergolas.

“You get to see a lot of stuff that you don’t usually get to see up here in Eagle,” said Holli Snyder, of Radiate Live, the event presenter. “I know in the spring I always want to do something to my house, and I get a lot of inspiration and ideas here in one spot.”

Giveaways galore

The list of vendors for the event is long, and it includes perennial favorites such as Energy Smart Colorado, Stephens Nursery, Champion Windows and Mesa Turf Masters. Those who attend the expo can expect to bring home lots of swag from the various vendor stations. The Western Slope Home & Rec Expo always features a boatload of large grand prizes, including a furniture package from American Furniture Warehouse and tickets to the June County Jam concert. Detail Decking is offering a raffle prize of $1,500 toward a new deck, and there will be giveaways for the upcoming Red, White & Brews festival in Avon.

When expo visitors arrive, they receive an event passport, which encourages them to visit all of the sponsor booths to register for prizes awarded every hour throughout the weekend. It’s a simple process — just get a signature from each listed booth and turn in the passport before leaving. Winners do not need to be present to receive their passport grand prizes, which will be drawn on Sunday before the event ends.

But ideas are the biggest takeaway from the expo for anyone interested in building, remodeling, decorating, gardening, improving energy efficiency and simple upkeep of a current home. Plus, this being Colorado, the event naturally pays homage to our outdoor recreation addiction, with vendors featuring products for where you play, as well as where you live.

Parking is free, and the expo is child-friendly, with a special kids’ zone that features inflatable bounce houses, a craft area and more.
