5 tips for healthy skin during summer (sponsored)

At 9,000+ feet, the sun, wind and dry climate can wreak havoc on our bodies. Biking, hiking, rafting and even gardening subjects us to the elements. What can you do to protect your skin while you’re out experiencing all that Summit County has to offer? We spoke with Carol Hag, owner of Serenity Spa & Salon in Keystone, to get some tips on how to look and feel great in the upcoming months.

1. Care for your hair

While it may not be the first thing that comes to mind, the sun and wind can take a toll on your locks. Before summer is in full swing, schedule a haircut to repair your hair. Get rid of those split ends, enjoy a deep conditioning treatment and consider an easier-to-maintain shorter cut. If you color your hair, the proper treatment can stop the color from fading in the harsh sun.

2. Put your best face forward

It’s time for a facial. A deep exfoliation will remove any dry, dead skin cells and a hydration treatment will restore moisture. Protective products can slow the effects of aging, while summer-specific products contain high levels of SPF and hydrating ingredients. Be sure to liberally apply eye cream, lip cream and night creams throughout the summer.

3. Mud and moisture are your friends

Treat yourself to a body treatment that includes mud and steam. The mud will detoxify the body from the harsh winter elements and prepare your skin for spring and summer. After the detox process, an all-over moisturizer will hydrate the skin and the final steam will give the skin pliability, which can aid in removing wrinkles.

4. Relax and replenish

As we all know, true beauty radiates from within. Enjoy a soothing and relaxing massage to replenish your spirit. Consider enhancing your massage with a cannabis treatment, which alleviates sore muscles, inflammation and sore joints.

5. Pamper your extremities

Our hands and feet need extra attention. Dry hands, crusty cuticles, cracked heels and callouses on our feet are more common than we’d like to admit. Tend to your hands with a manicure and to your feet with a pedicure. Staying on top of your nail health with monthly manicures and pedicures can lead to fewer issues going forward.
