Sgt. James Logsdon, whose home is in Dillon and who is the son of Mrs. Geisel, postmaster at that place, last Monday distinguished himself when he rescued Audra Alden, an actress, from the Angelus Hotel at El Paso, Texas, as the structure was burning. Several persons were injured and overcome by smoke.

Logsdon is sergeant of Company A. Coloardo Signal Corps and was returning with the troops from the Mexican border. This is the second rescue episode in which he has figured, having saved a woman from drowning in the English Channel when in the U.S. Navy.

Train service disrupted

Heavy snowfall Sunday and Sunday night and followed by strong winds was responsible for delayed passenger trains Monday. No. 70 on the C. & S. from Denver, due here at 3:20, was a little over three hours late. No. 71 from Leadville did not arrive until 8:30 Tuesday morning — 22 hours behind time.

Great quantities of snow presented formidable barriers, even to the rotary, which came from Denver Tuesday, making it possible for the Denver train to reach here, and went on to the rescue of No. 71.

Wednesday the usual schedule was resumed and no great difficulty has been experienced since.

Frisco man makes long trip on skis

Peter Prestrud, the Frisco ranchman and expert Norwegian ski rider, rode his skis all the way from Frisco to Sulphur Springs to attend the carnival recently held there. He was well pleased with the event and won second place in the 5-mile cross-country ski run, making it in 37 minutes and 55 seconds. He declares that he will be a prominent participant in the ski sports next year.

Much ore in the Ida Belle Mine

Joe Childers of the Ida Bell Mine near Montezuma was a victory in Breckenridge Saturday. He states that work has been advancing steadily at the property and that much ore is available. However, shipments are not easily made at this time of year, owing to the condition of trails but spring will find ore coming down from the Ida Belle at a rapid rate.

Skating record broken in Denver

What is said to be a world’s record in 24-hour endurance roller skating was established at the Broadway roller skating rink in Denver when Robert Wheeler covered 281 miles and eight laps in 24 hours, defeating Weatherby, Miller and Eisenhand, the latter dropping out when he was painfully injured.
