Hsing-ay Hsu and the Altius String Quartet to perform Sunday

Playing an evening of classical music Sunday, April 7, are Hsing-ay Hsu and the Altius String Quartet. The program includes Brahms’ “Piano Quintet,” “Piano Concerto K.414” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Piazzolla’s “Libertango.”

Since making her stage debut at age 4, Chinese pianist Hsing-ay Hsu has performed at such notable venues as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and abroad in Asia and Europe.

A versatile concerto soloist, she was named a U.S. Presidential Scholar of the Arts by President Clinton at the White House and a “2011 Pathmaker” by Denver Post. Hsu is the artistic director for Pendulum New Music Series at the University of Colorado Boulder. An active educator, teacher with prize-winning students, speaker and adjudicator, her teaching honors include the 2010 NFMC Ouida Keck Award and The Washington Post described her as full of “power, authority and self-assurance.”

Deriving their name from the Olympic motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius,” Latin for “Faster, Higher, Stronger,” the Altius Quartet strives to communicate art to a more diverse audience through community engagement and an innovative repertoire. They recently released their second album, “Shostakovich’s String Quartets 7, 8, & 9.”

The concert begins at 4 p.m. at Dillon Community Church, 371 E. La Bonte St. General admission tickets are $30 and can be purchased at SummitMusicAndArts.org or by calling 970-485-3356. Admission is free for students.
