1 killed, 1 injured after lightning strike at CSU

FORT COLLINS ” Colorado State University says one man was killed and another was seriously hurt when they were struck by lightning on campus.

CSU police say 35-year-old doctoral student William John Szlemko died a short time after the lightning struck Thursday night in trees near the forestry building.

Thirty-three-year-old graduate assistant Marc Vernon Richard was hospitalized in intensive care Friday.



A passerby alerted authorities after finding both men unconscious.

The men were affiliated with the psychology department.



Earlier this week, 32-year-old CSU journalism department employee Rebecca Allen was killed when a driver struck her bike. Daniel P. Price was arrested on a charge of vehicular homicide.
