$100K in jewelry taken from Steamboat-area house

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS – Authorities say a 300-pound safe containing more than $100,000 worth of jewelry has been stolen from a Steamboat Springs-area house.A caretaker reported the break-in on Wednesday. Routt County sheriff’s investigators say the homeowners were away.Deputies say the safe contained 50 to 60 pieces of jewelry including watches, necklaces and other items.Investigators say they found evidence the thief or thieves stopped to rest four times in 50 yards before reaching a road, where a vehicle was likely waiting.—Information from: Steamboat Pilot & Today, http://steamboatpilot.com/
